Biowaste to Energy

Renewable waste: An energy solution for the food & beverage industry.

On the 5th of July 2010, a group of MBA students from the Norwich Business School in association with the Low Carbon Innovation Centre held an event focused on converting food & beverage industry bio-waste into energy. Through presentations, case studies and open panel discussions, the event drew together food & beverage industry firms, waste managers and stakeholders from throughout the food & beverage industry life cycle in the UK. The objectives of the event were to:

  1. Set the regulatory and economic context and outline future trends
  2. Explore opportunities for reducing cost, maintaining compliance and improving sustainability
  3. Share actual experiences of using waste-to-energy technologies in the food & beverage industries.

Some of the organizations that attended were: Allied Bakeries, Greene King, Muntons Brewery, Veolia, Bernard Matthews, Brown & Co, Energy Power Resources, Norfolk County council & the Environment Agency, among others. With over 70 attendees and proceeds of £1,000 going to the British Trust Conservation Volunteers (BTCV) Norfolk, the event was a great success for all involved.
