Norwich Business School at the University of East Anglia was the first UK MBA to offer students the chance to gain a Diploma in Management Consultancy with their Masters of Business Administration (MBA) qualification.

The school has been awarded Approved Centre status for the diploma by the Chartered Management Institute (CMI). It means that MBA students have the opportunity to achieve a joint award of MBA and Diploma in Management Consultancy.

The Approved Centre status has been awarded in recognition of Norwich Business School's commitment to the practical application of theory through MBA student consultancy education and projects with live businesses and organisations.

MBA programme director Terry Kendrick said:

"We are delighted to be awarded Approved Centre status by CMI and to be the first MBA programme to offer the Diploma in Management Consultancy as an additional qualification.

We are proud of the industry focused nature of our MBA and the emphasis we place on the multiple consultancy projects MBA participants undertake. It is this innovative approach to executive education that has led to our recognition by CMI"

To achieve the award, students must gain a good standard in certain MBA units as well as achieve pass standard in a 2500 word reflection on their consultancy year, together with a personal development plan to further develop the consultancy skills achieved during the MBA programme.

At present there is no additional fee for this extra qualification and it is not compulsory for students to take the joint award - they can elect to simply undertake the core MBA units and receive the single award of MBA.

The diploma is available to students on all MBA variants offered by Norwich Business School.
