I joined UEA in June 2011 as a senior lecturer in marketing, based at the Norwich Business School and working from UEA London. Prior to this I held a similar post at the University of Hull. Before taking up an academic profession I followed a career in commercial marketing in the brewing industry and license trade sector. My education includes professional marketing qualifications, a PhD in Management (promotional marketing), a master’s degree in Marketing and a first degree in Communication Studies. As part of my academic role, I have been involved with consultancy and enterprise projects working with a range of organisations including SMEs, creative and media agencies associated with professional communications services industries, and large media organisations, like Royal Mail.

My main research interests focus on aspects of communication and strategic marketing practice. These include the role of media and communication technology in promotional marketing campaigns, and the associated working practises of agencies and agency partnerships connected to marketing campaigns. Some of my recent research has explored campaign practice associated with integrated marketing communication. My current interest is in exploring how aspects of neuroscience can inform a better understanding of personal information processing related to marketing campaigns. I see this as able to help build deeper insights into the influence of communication messages and the metal models that support brand differentiation and consumer preferences. I have worked for and done consultancy work with a number of SMEs. This has given me a particular interest in the type of resources and relationships that are especially critical to help support the competitive and strategic positions of SMEs. I have carried out research with academic colleagues and with colleagues based in industry and my work has been published in international academic journals and professional journals.

I have taught modules across the marketing and strategic management fields. I enjoy teaching consumer behaviour and marketing research but my main focus is on content associated with communication, such as advertising, public relations, media communication and integrated marketing communication practice. I have taught modules belonging to postgraduate, undergraduate and professional level programmes and I have experience supporting students doing research up to PhD level as well as supporting academic associates working on in-company commercial projects, for example as part of ‘knowledge transfer programmes'.

As part of a small team based at ‘UEA London', I help to share administrative roles that support the work of the Business School and the life of the student community based in London.  Prior to this, I have worked across a range of institutions, including a teaching led university and more research focused institutions. This has included a range of administrative roles such as module leadership across a wider range of marketing related modules and programme leaderships at undergraduate and postgraduate levels as well as leading a marketing subject group.  I have held the post of deputy director for a research centre for marketing and I have sat on committees covering areas from audio visual and IT resources to teaching and learning and enterprise and community collaboration.  I have also supported student recruitment involving university clearing and overseas careers fairs.
