Corporate Responsibility

Description

An increasing number of companies have started to develop programmes to limit their impact on the environment and society. This trend has been catalysed by a range of internal and external drivers, from new legal requirements to increasing demands from customers for more ‘ethical’ or ‘sustainable’ products. In this module students will learn about business ethics, the corporate responsibility issues companies may face and how they can be managed to maximise value and minimise risk.

Learning objectives

By the end of the module students will understand:

  1. The relationship between corporate responsibility, corporate social responsibility and sustainable development
  2. Different ethical frameworks used to understand the relationship between ethics and business
  3. The main corporate responsibility issues that corporates face and how they can be identified and prioritised
  4. The standards, frameworks and principles associated with corporate responsibility
  5. The different approaches that can be used to manage corporate responsibility

Learning outcomes

By the end of the module students will be able to:

  1. Recognise the wider ethical role of corporates in creating a socially and environmentally sustainable world
  2. Identify and prioritise the corporate responsibility issues facing a corporate
  3. Use globally recognised standards to measure and report corporate responsibility issues and analyse performance
  4. Apply the different management tools used to manage corporate responsibility
