"With over 20 years work experience I was looking for an MBA with a difference. The Carbon MBA reconfirmed the general principles of business management, but in addition gave me a breadth of knowledge of climate change and the impacts on business from a theoretical as well as practical perspective. The consultancy projects provided the opportunity to apply the learning to mandates with some blue chip companies. Working so closely in small groups for the consultancy projects was one of the most enjoyable parts of the course and I have made lifelong friends as a result.

On completing the course in December I had already secured a job with Climate Change Capital starting in January. My previous work experience together with the confidence that the MBA gave me was instrumental in this. Having caught the learning bug whilst doing my MBA I am now combining my job in London with doing a part-time PhD at UEA."

"I chose to study at Norwich Business School because it offered a wide-ranging and comprehensive business management degree and I felt welcome from my first visit and could see myself living and learning in Norwich for three years. I was not disappointed!

I looked at a number of business schools including NBS. What persuaded me to study at UEA was talking to current students, lecturers and the head of school ensuring that this course would challenge me and offer the right environment where I could get support from student mentors, personal tutors and lecturers if I needed it, but more importantly I could take responsibility for my own learning and development.

I thrived, extending and challenging my academic understanding of the world of business and in second and third year choosing to specialise in areas including entrepreneurship and small business, behavioural aspects of marketing, strategic brand management and legal issues in business.

This fuelled my interest in marketing and brands. Since graduating in 2010 I have secured a number of internships through the Evolve program run in partnership with NBS. Working in marketing and social media, these positions have given me practical experience alongside my academic ability allowing me to secure a place on the world's only MSc in Brand Leadership here at Norwich Business School and I cannot wait to start in September 2011!"

"Studying at UEA gave me the chance to learn a number of key skills and knowledge key to success in the accounting field, in a safe and friendly environment; along with a great night life and the chance to meet a wide variety of new people. Through undertaking my degree I have been able to benefit from a number of exemptions from exams which make up part of the professional qualification that I am currently studying for alongside my work. My job involves dealing with a number of different clients, and by getting involved in the student recruitment process whilst attending the university, I was able to improve on a number of the more “softer” skills which are essential in my line of work as an auditor. I hope to progress my career further, either through working my way up the Deloitte ladder, or by seeking a different challenge with a job in industry. I feel that UEA, and the Business School, helped give me the core skills and competencies reqired to get me where I am now, and achieve all that I have and hope to in the future."

"My time at NBS was a life-changing experience. The MSc course gave me the knowledge, skills and, most importantly, the confidence to set up my own business. After I finished the course, I set up my own business (Bunches & Munches, a florists and sandwich bar) and within a year we had won a regional business award.

Having come from a Computer Science background (Warwick University, 2005) I was unsure about how I would adapt to the different approach to teaching. I am pleased to say I thrived and am very proud of achieving my Distinction. The course is challenging, but it is clear from the outset that you get out of it what you put in.

The UEA is a fantastic place to study. The facilities and teaching are first class, but beyond this there is a brilliant students union with numerous societies and sports teams you can join. On the course you will meet interesting students from around the world, many of whom will become friends for life. Thanks to the Internet I am in regular contact with friends as far away as Indonesia and Taiwan!"

Claire Carter, BSc Business Management, 2011

"I have thoroughly enjoyed studying at UEA, studying Business Management. Being a campus University it has such a social feel and there are always things happening to get involved with. Some of the best times are in the summer months when everyone spends their time by the lake. Nothing is ever too far away on campus, and this was what I loved because you always had an opportunity to get involved or simply hang out with friends. As for studying, Business Management at UEA covers such a vast range of modules teaching you so many different important aspects of business. Upon graduating from UEA I feel I am fully equipped with knowledge to enter any business role and be successful as I have studied everything from finance to business law. There were some really interesting coursework assignments, one of my favourites was for principles of marketing where we were required to design a new nightclub and devise a marketing plan for that. It really keeps you entertained whilst you struggle through day after day in the library! I am currently working as a Financial Analyst, and use knowledge from my degree every day, from macro economics to Gantt charts. From here I hope to develop my career to eventually work in strategy, as this was the area that most interested my throughout University. I feel that, had I not studied at UEA, these career options would not have opened up for myself, as the course helped me broaden my knowledge of business in practice and showed me options that I never knew existed prior."

Robert Eagling, BSc Business Management, 2009

"Hello, my name is Robert and I studied an undergraduate degree in Business Management at UEA. My time at Norwich Business School and UEA has been invaluable within my career to date.

I am currently employed by a major food retailer as part of their senior management team within a store. My degree on a daily basis provides me with the skills to successfully plan, manage and succeed within my role. I see myself progressing through the management ladder quickly, partly due to my experiences gained in my degree.

I really enjoyed all aspects of my degree, finding the modular structure ideal to my own learning style. Within the later years of my degree, I could specialise and pick certain modules that I was interested in and wanted to learn about further. Moreover, I felt the balance between more theoretical modules and practical modules meant that I left university as a well-rounded individual. Although I cannot be certain of the factors that helped me gain employment, I believe that my well-rounded studies and the excellent reputation of UEA certainly helped.

The lecturers were extremely supportive of my studies and were always keen to help with any queries or questions. It is evident that the lecturers all had a real passion for their subjects, and this passion soon developed within myself and made me want to explore the subjects further. NBS also provided an academic advisor, whom I could regularly meet with and discuss my progress.

Outside of studying, the UEA has so many facilities to suit all interests. The union bar is in an idea location for meeting friends or taking part in the weekly pub quiz. Societies are also a great way of developing a hobby or meeting friends. The many open areas on campus also provide an attractive break between classes in the summer.

I really enjoyed my time at UEA and the Norwich Business School. I believe the variety of interesting modules, the supportive lecturers and UEA's facilities definitely help me to succeed. I would certainly recommend NBS and UEA to any prospective students."

"The Norwich Business School has enriched my entire university experience. I came to university three years ago with a very specific goal – to work at PwC as an auditor. Thanks to the outstanding teaching and guidance within NBS, I will be embarking upon my chosen career this September.

The rigorous academic standards set by the school, combined with excellent instruction both challenged and motivated me to achieve the most from my time at university. In addition to providing us with interesting and informative lectures and seminars, the lecturers also afforded us a personal touch. Even though there were hundreds of people in my year, lecturers could greet us by name and took the time to make each of us feel like an individual. I can directly attribute being offered my ideal job to my course - learning and developing a strong work ethic coupled with specific accounting and business skills provided me with many of the proficiencies that PwC were looking for. Hopefully I will be able to build on these skills over the coming years in order to progress my career to perhaps one day become partner.

Although I am incredibly sad to be leaving NBS, I am excited to begin my accounting career this autumn. I know that I owe my job placement in large part to my school and thanks to the course structure and quality, I will be exempt from nearly half of the professional ACA exams that I would be due to take over the next three years. I will always think back on my time at NBS with appreciation and gratitude."
