Norwich Business School: Research Degrees (PhD/MPhil)

The University of East Anglia has a track record of excellence in research and is committed to a year-on-year increase in the number of postgraduate students. In the 2008 Research Assessment Exercise, over 45% of the Norwich Business School's research activity was deemed to be World leading or internationally excellent, with 90% in total being of international standing.

Norwich Business School offers students different pathways to a doctorate. Those yet to develop sufficient disciplinary and research technique training are encouraged to take the Master of Research (MRes) degree; those who have previous training will be able to register for a PhD immediately, subject to meeting our entry requirements.

The research degrees offered by Norwich Business School are:

MRes Social Science Research Methods

The MRes Social Science Research Methods is a taught programme designed either for those planning to proceed to the PhD programme, or for those wishing to improve their research skills for application in business.

PhD

PhD programmes usually last for a period of three years (or six years part-time).  The first year is the design phase, during which time students work closely with their supervisor.  Data are gathered in the second year and in the final year, students write up their theses.  Throughout the entire period of PhD study, students are supported by their supervisor.

MPhil

The MPhil is only offered under exceptional circumstances when a research student's funding does not allow a student to undertake an MRes programme.

To discuss specific research topics and opportunities for research in the School please contact Dr Hing Kai Chan, Postgraduate Research Director.
